Tekio Cempa Martial Arts, located in Greys, was established in September 2017 by Sensei David Cole. Sensei Cole has over 20 years of experience in martial arts and combat sports and wanted to continue his journey in a martial arts school of his own. Prior to founding Tekio Cempa, Sensei Cole gained his black belt under Sensei Allen Tottman at Greys North Cempa Jutsu, which served as the foundation for Tekio Cempa Martial Arts.
Tekio Cempa Martial Arts is not just a standalone, rigid system. It is a martial art system that incorporates traditional karate techniques while allowing students to explore connexions to various other martial arts. Sensei Cole's background in Boxing and other martial arts has influenced the training at Tekio Cempa, making it an adaptive and mixed martial arts system.
The goal of Tekio Cempa is to provide students with the opportunity to train in a martial art system where their own efforts determine their progress. Through Tekio Cempa's training methods and teachings, students will unlock the application of karate and understand how it can be connected to other martial arts styles. By developing through the Tekio-Cempa basics, students will discover what techniques work best for them and become truly adaptive martial artists.
At Tekio Cempa, the focus is on making each individual the best martial artist they can be. The school believes in embracing individuality and recognising that everyone develops differently. Students are encouraged to explore their own strengths and train in a way that suits them, rather than conforming to a standardised approach. This philosophy reflects the essence of Tekio-Cempa.
Inspiration for Tekio Cempa Martial Arts comes from individuals who show dedication and hard work in achieving their goals, particularly in the world of martial arts and combat sports. Whether through words or actions, the school seeks to both inspire and be inspired. The school firmly believes that a martial art is only effective if it works in actual self-defence situations, as stated by Choki Motobu, a respected Okinawan Karateka.
Bruce Lee's famous quote, “The best fighter is someone who can adapt to any style,” further emphasises Tekio Cempa's philosophy. Being an “adaptive warrior” means having no boundaries and being able to adapt to any situation or style.
Tekio Cempa Martial Arts has multiple clubs located in Greys, North Harwich, and St Johns Church Hall. Classes are available for beginners of all ages, from 5 years old and up, as well as separate classes for juniors and adults. The club operates under an “old school” system, where members can simply turn up, pay their entrance fee, and train. There are no tie-in membership fees or direct debit commitments.
In conclusion, Tekio Cempa Martial Arts offers a unique training experience where students can explore karate techniques and their connexions to other martial arts. With a focus on individual development and an adaptive mindset, the school aims to help students become the best martial artists they can be. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced practitioner, Tekio Cempa Martial Arts welcomes all who are willing to train and improve their skills.
