The Tamworth Pony Club, located in Hallsville, is a horse riding school dedicated to providing the best instruction for children in horse riding and horsemanship. With a focus on promoting fun and friendship, Tamworth Pony Club offers a range of activities and events that create lifelong friendships and memories.
Rally Days are held on the first Sunday of every month, where riders receive instruction on riding and caring for their pony. These rallies are run by voluntary instructors who provide training in various forms of riding, including flat work, show riding, show jumping, dressage, and sporting events such as barrel racing, bending races, keyhole, camp drafting, tent pegging, horse-ball, and roping. In 2023, rally days will also feature guest instructors and visitors from different disciplines, adding excitement and variety to the learning experience.
When attending Rally Days, participants are required to wear casual clothing, preferably sun smart, along with an approved helmet (AS/NZ3838 or better) and smooth soled riding boots. This ensures the safety and comfort of all riders.
Tamworth Pony Club also hosts annual competitions, including a closed Club Ribbon Day where members compete in disciplines such as show riding, show jumping, and sporting events. Additionally, the club hosts a Blanch Trophy Day and a Show riding, Sporting, and Show jumping weekend, inviting clubs from across the Zone to participate. These competitions foster a sense of camaraderie and friendly rivalry between children throughout the Zone, encouraging growth and sportsmanship.
Throughout the year, Tamworth Pony Club organises special events such as a Mini Camp during the April school holidays and an Annual Camp held in the September/October school holidays. Mini Camp provides children with expert instruction and an opportunity to enjoy their holidays on horseback, while the Annual Camp serves as a space for making new friends, practising horse riding skills, and learning new techniques. The camp runs for six days and includes various sessions, including a pony dress-up afternoon where participants can have fun dressing their ponies in costume.
Tamworth Pony Club is dedicated to providing opportunities for children to advance their skills and knowledge in horse riding. Children have access to advanced training days, development programmes, and education seminars. The club takes pride in the achievements of its members and instructors who have competed nationally and internationally, earning awards at Zone, State, and National levels, including prestigious events such as the Royal Sydney Show and Brisbane Exhibition Show.
In addition to its involvement in equestrian activities, Tamworth Pony Club actively supports the Tamworth community. As the nation's sporting horse capital, Tamworth hosts numerous equine events, and the club often participates or provides assistance in these events. Furthermore, the club offers its grounds for various functions, including interschool horse sports days, horsemanship clinics, training days, equine competition days, camping grounds during the Tamworth Country Music Festival, and hiring the clubhouse for various events and functions.
Tamworth Pony Club is grateful for the hard work and dedication of its volunteers and sponsors, without whom the club would not exist. They play a vital role in supporting and enriching the experiences of the club's members.
