Takemusu Aiki Association Inc Braidwood is a sports club located in Palerang Council, Australia, dedicated to promoting and teaching the martial art of Aikido. This non-profit organisation is part of Aikido Australia, which was established to support the teachings of Aikido from the Founder's own dojo.
The Chief Instructor and President of the Takemusu Aiki Association Inc in Australia is Saburo Takayasu Sensei, a highly experienced 7th Dan Shihan. Under his guidance, the association has quietly but positively contributed to spreading Aikido and has grown to include several dojos in the Sydney metropolitan area.
Aikido, also known as “the art of harmony,” was founded by Morihei Ueshiba and has evolved from a battle technique to a spiritual way. It is based on principles of non-aggression, non-resistance, and non-competitiveness. Aikido allows individuals to defend themselves against larger and stronger attackers without relying on physical strength or speed, while also emphasising understanding and respect for others.
The gentle nature of Aikido attracts men, women, and children of all ages. It offers not only physical exercise but also spiritual development, mental concentration, balance, reflex action, and teaches proper etiquette and behaviour.
The unique aspect of Aikido is its focus on timing, positioning, and balance-taking rather than physical strength and size. Techniques involve joint locks, pins, and throws, aimed at quickly immobilising an attacker and resolving conflicts peacefully and safely. Practitioners alternate between offensive and defensive roles during practise, allowing each person to experience both aspects of the techniques. Aikido can be practised at different speeds and intensities, accommodating individual progress and abilities.
In the Takemusu Aiki Association Inc Braidwood, the training atmosphere is one of cooperation and mutual respect, as Aikido is a non-competitive art. Each Aikidoka progresses at their own pace, finding harmony not only in their practise but also in everyday life.
The club is led by highly experienced instructors, such as Saburo Takayasu Sensei in North Sydney, NSW, and Derek Minus Sensei in Ku-ring-gai, NSW. These dedicated teachers provide guidance and support to students in their Aikido journey.
