Marie Kean from the Taieri Bridge Club has been keen to share some updates with the wider sports community. Established back in 1973, the Taieri Bridge Club has grown into a notable hub for bridge players. Since 1986, it’s been housed at the corner of Wickliffe and Church Streets in Mosgiel, not far from the heart of Dunedin. The club currently has around 140 members and is known for being both welcoming and efficiently run.
Marie points out that the club is affiliated with NZ Bridge and frequently collaborates with the Otago Bridge Club. They’ve embraced modern tech like the NZ Bridge Scorer programme and use tablets for scoring, with hands randomly dealt by machines. The club holds bridge sessions three times a week and organises several tournaments throughout the year. They also offer classes for both beginners and those looking to improve their game.
The club’s leadership team includes President Marie Kean, Vice President Merv Muir, Immediate Past President Jen Macartney, Secretary Barbara Wilkes, and Treasurer Marg Auty. Other committee members are Avril Power, Jan Methers, Diane Paterson, Lyn McLaren, and Deirdre Bruce.
For anyone keen on learning bridge, the next set of lessons starts in early March 2024. You can get in touch with Marie at 027 280 4455. The cost for the 12 lessons is $50.
The Taieri Bridge Club is conveniently located at 10 Wickliffe Street, Mosgiel, right on the Brooklands Recreational Reserve. There’s plenty of on-street parking available. If you're visiting, there are motels just a short walk away.
For any correspondence, Marie advises using PO Box 53, Mosgiel, or the physical address at 10 Wickliffe St, Mosgiel. The club’s email is taieribridge@outlook.com.
Marie also mentions that the Taieri Bridge Club is a key part of the Otago/Southland Regional Bridge community, which offers more than just bridge games. While in the Scenic South, visitors can enjoy the area's sights, adventure activities, and wineries in Central Otago.
In summary, Marie wants to highlight that the Taieri Bridge Club in Mosgiel is a friendly and established community for bridge enthusiasts. With dedicated officers, modern technology, regular sessions, and tournaments, it’s a great place for both new and seasoned players to enjoy bridge.
