"Tai Chi & Qi Gong – Shapes of Balance" operates in Kingston upon Thames and is led by Master Thomas Nowakowski. The school offers classes and workshops centred around Tai Chi and Qi Gong.
Regular practice happens every Wednesday from 7 pm to 8:30 pm, followed by some individual work until 9 pm. Classes are held at Kingston Quaker Centre, Hall Fairfield East, Kingston upon Thames, Surrey KT1 2PT.
The school follows a comprehensive system based on the Yang style and the lesser-known San Feng family style. Sessions begin with San Feng's Father form, a unique warm-up and relaxation exercise. Master Thomas Nowakowski is the only known teacher of this form in the UK, bringing over 30 years of experience and his own teaching methodology.
Practising Tai Chi with the Shapes of Balance system helps individuals achieve physical, mental, and emotional balance. Benefits include improved perception, better breathing, reduced stress, enhanced cardiovascular fitness, increased flexibility, body toning, and promoting mind-body connection and relaxation.
Classes cover topics such as Nei gong (Tai Chi's internal work), the Nine Small Havens form, the 13 Basic Forms of Tai Chi, practical applications, and techniques like Tuishou (Push Hands) and Sensitive Hands. One-to-one lessons are also available for personalised guidance.
Thomas Nowakowski, a visual artist and Tai Chi teacher, has been practising martial arts since 1966. His varied background includes Judo, Ju-jitsu, fencing, Kendo, Kung fu, Aikido, and Karate, as well as yoga and Qi Gong. Teaching Tai Chi and Qi Gong since 1982, he has led workshops across several countries, including the UK, and was a judge at the 7th Chung Hwa Cup International Tai Chi Chuan Championship in Taiwan in 2004.
"Tai Chi & Qi Gong – Shapes of Balance" welcomes everyone, whether you're a beginner or have some experience. For more information or to join a session, feel free to contact the school or drop in.
