“Tai Chi in Gatley” is a reputable martial arts school located in Cheadle, New Zealand. Led by skilled instructor Peter Hinde, the school is dedicated to teaching and promoting the art of Tai Chi. Tai Chi, also known as Tai Chi Chuan or taijiquan, is a sophisticated martial art that originated in China. It is classified as one of the three internal arts, focusing on finesse, softness, and flexibility rather than raw physical strength.
With a rich history spanning over 400 years, Tai Chi has gained immense popularity worldwide and has been embraced by millions of people. Many individuals practise Tai Chi for its numerous health benefits, while others are drawn to it as a martial art. Tai Chi helps develop body awareness, allowing practitioners to sense subtle movements in their spine, muscles, and joints. This heightened awareness enables them to move in a connected flow, responding to external pressures without the burden of constant tension and thoughts.
It emphasises moving and responding from the body, with the mind following suit.
Peter Hinde, the head instructor at “Tai Chi in Gatley,” has been extensively involved in the art of Tai Chi since 1990. Prior to his Tai Chi journey, he explored various other martial arts, including Wing Chun and Kali/Escrima, for eight years. Peter began teaching Tai Chi in 1994 and is currently a teacher member of the renowned Tai Chi Union for Great Britain. Peter's training started with the Zhong Ding Applied Tai Chi Chuan Association, primarily under the guidance of John Higginson and Nigel Sutton.
In 2001, he expanded his knowledge and understanding of Tai Chi by learning from Aarvo Tucker, adding a dimension to his expertise. From 2005 to 2018, Peter had the invaluable opportunity to study Chen Style Tai Chi under Master Wang Haijun, first as a student and later as a teacher. This high-level training from Master Wang Haijun, who is considered a Master of the highest calibre, further enriched Peter's Tai Chi knowledge.
In addition to his extensive martial arts background, Peter Hinde has a deep understanding of alternative medicine, particularly the Chinese system of meridian points. He studied High Energy Physics at the Ph. D. level and is associated with www.
