Taekwon-Do is a modern martial art of unarmed self-defence originating from Korea. It distinguishes itself from other martial arts with its intricate techniques and comprehensive training cycle. Incorporating various scientific principles to generate maximum power, Taekwon-Do aims to discourage or halt all forms of intimidation or aggression. The ITF style of Taekwon-Do is considered the “traditional” or “original” form, as created by General Choi Hong Hi.
This style embodies a complete martial journey and puts into practice a range of techniques, as well as personal development through the values of Taekwon-Do. In combat, hands, and fists are used effectively to ensure realism in a self-defence context. “The way of the kick and the punch”, Taekwon-Do signifies "Tae” for kicking techniques, "Kwon” for punching techniques, and “Do” for the art or way, representing the philosophy of this martial art. It is a unified training of the body and mind, promoting values such as courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control, and courage.
Taekwon-Do serves as both a sport, a way of life, and a tool for social development.
