

Taboo Dance Company, located in Greenhithe, is a renowned dance school that has been making waves in the industry since its formation in 2004. Founded by Choreographer Kirsten Wheeler, who was awarded The Carl Alan Street Dance Teachers award in 2014, Taboo is a well-established dance company with a strong reputation.
Currently, Taboo consists of 40 talented members, aged between 7 and 23 years, who come together to train and take classes in Gravesend, Kent. The company is divided into several individual groups, each with its own unique identity and style. These groups include Essence, Remix, Elysium, Anarchy, Hustle, Damage, Envy, and Calibre.
Over the years, Taboo has participated in numerous competitions and showcased their talent in various shows and charity events. They have performed at prestigious venues such as The Duke of Edinburgh Awards in London, the Clothes Show live @ the NEC Birmingham, the Dartford Festival, and the Hop Farm Kent. The company has also been invited to perform at corporate events for esteemed companies like Ernst and Young solicitors, the British Inspiration Awards, and the London Taxi Drivers. They have even served as the support act for Mcfly at the Kent Music Festival and performed at Borstal Young offenders prison for the young adults.
Taboo's achievements speak for themselves. In March 2009, Remix, one of their talented teams, won the Open stage event at Move it, Olympia, and went on to perform at Live Vibe, Sadlers Wells, London. In April 2009, Taboo represented England at Dance Excellence in Hollywood, America, where they received the highest level of achievement from the Dance Excellence performance boards. Remix was also awarded The NXG Award for Best Dance Group of 2009.
The company's talent was further recognised when they appeared on Sky 1's Got to Dance in 2009 and reached the street dance battle. In 2010, Taboo became semi-finalists on Britains Got Talent and were honoured as “Health Heroes” by the NHS. Remix also made it to the finals of the Barclays Live Dance Competition in Leicester Square, London. Taboo Dance Company has consistently represented their country in the IDO Europeans and Worlds Hip Hop Championships, earning several podium medals.
They are currently reigning World, UK, and Dutch IDO champions. In 2019, they also secured victory as the Disney Dance Camp Champions and SOAR European champions.
It is evident that Taboo Dance Company is dedicated to nurturing young talent and paving the way for their future success in dance and performance. Many of their members have gone on to pursue further education in performing arts and dance colleges, with some receiving scholarships to esteemed establishments like Bird College and Sylvia Youngs. Ex-members of Taboo have found success working on cruise ships, in the commercial sector, and on tour or in West End musicals, including Wicked, The Bodyguard, Mary Poppins, and Matthew Bournes Swan Lake.
