Hello Everyone,
Chris is delighted to welcome you to Swinton Judo and Martial Arts Centre, right here in Manchester. This club, located at 187-189 Moorside Road, Swinton, Salford, provides a permanent mat area and caters to all ages and genders, starting from 4 years old up to adults. Chris, along with experienced coaches, has ensured that every coach is DBS checked, First Aid certified, and regularly updated through coaching accreditations and courses.
Judo remains the club's main focus, offering sessions for different age groups and skill levels. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced judoka, there's something for everyone. The club runs sessions for Kinders (5 to 7), Juniors (8 to 15), and Adults (16+). The training times are:
- **Kinders**: Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:15 to 7:15
- **Juniors**: Mondays and Wednesdays from 7:15 to 8:15
- **Adults**: Mondays and Wednesdays from 8:15 to 9:30
For your convenience, there is a large car park available at the rear of the building. Look for us next to RRG Toyota on Moorside Road.
Swinton Judo Club has a rich history, dating back to 1957. Though records before this time are scarce, the club is believed to have been run by a German coach who was interned during World War II. Over the years, the club has grown and evolved, finely settling in its current location. The venue now boasts top-notch training areas, changing rooms, showers, a spectator seating area, a recreation room, and private parking.
This transformation is thanks to the hard work of our members and financial help from small grants. Swinton Judo Club not only introduces the Olympic sport of judo to the community but also offers recreational judo for those who prefer a club atmosphere. With affiliations to the British Judo Association and the Salford Sports Network, the club also provides a competitive pathway from beginner to international levels.
Getting started at Swinton Judo and Martial Arts Centre is straightforward. Choose the appropriate age group and session time, and simply turn up 15 minutes before the session to fill out a simple form. There's no need for an appointment or a formal beginners course. Participants should wear jogging bottoms without zips or buttons, and a T-shirt. Please remove all metal and plastic jewellery, earrings, necklaces, and hair clips. The club provides judo jackets and belts at no charge, but once you decide to continue, you can purchase your own kit from the club.
Each session costs £4.50 for non-members, with no contracts or long-term commitments required. We offer reduced family rates for households with three or more members, and annual club memberships are available for £20 per family. Insurance is covered for the first 5 sessions under the instructors, with additional options available for discussion.
