Freyberg Community Pool, home to the well-renowned SwimMagic swimming club, is excited to announce a local swimming event specially designed for children with additional needs. We understand that some children may struggle in group lessons or have specific sensory issues. That's why SwimMagic is here to provide a tailored and safe environment for them to learn and thrive in their swimming journey.
Our experienced senior instructor, Kirstie Nash, boasts over 20 years of expertise in teaching children with special needs. Her ability to create lessons that cater to children of all ages, abilities, and requirements has earned her a strong following in the swimming community. Kirstie has worked with children on the autism spectrum, those with physical disabilities, and those with developmental delays, making her the perfect guide for your child's swimming progress.
At SwimMagic, we understand that anxiety has become more prevalent in children, especially due to the ongoing effects of Covid-19 and lockdowns. To address this, we offer private, one-on-one lessons, specialised group lessons, and integration with other swim school lessons. We want to ensure that each child feels comfortable and supported as they work towards their swimming goals.
Before the formal lessons begin, our instructors assess each child's comfort level in the water and their swimming abilities. This enables us to create personalised lesson plans that match each child's needs and level. We believe in flexibility, and our instructors are skilled at observing and adapting the lesson based on a child's mood on a given day.
At SwimMagic, we encourage an exploratory approach, allowing children to discover the water in their own way. We provide specialised equipment such as hoists, floats, kickboards, noodles, and toys to enhance the learning experience. Repetition and routine play a crucial role, as they provide cues for the students and help them feel secure in their progress.
In our lessons for special needs students, we integrate Water Skills for Life, a national standard for aquatic skills in primary school-aged children set by Water Safety NZ. This ensures that our students not only gain swimming proficiency but also develop essential water safety awareness.
The progress our students make is truly remarkable. We've had siblings who initially experienced anxiety and fear of going underwater, and within just 10 weeks, they have confidently started kicking and jumping. These lessons can be life-changing, not only for the students but also for their parents, who greatly appreciate the growth and confidence their children show.
So, if you're looking for a swimming event that caters specifically to children with additional needs, look no further than SwimMagic at Freyberg Community Pool. With our tailored lessons, experienced instructors, and supportive environment, we are here to help your child unlock their swimming potential. Join us for a truly rewarding and empowering swimming experience!
