Richard Beale wants to share some news with the sports community about the Swarkestone Syndicate. This well-established fishing club in Derby, East Midlands, operates on the Swarkestone gravel pit, a well-known spot in the carp fishing scene. Since 2014, Richard and a group of experienced anglers have been managing this 80-acre gravel pit.
Anglers will find the gravel pit a fantastic spot with its islands, bars, spits, shallows, weedy bays, and deep areas, offering a variety of fishing experiences and challenges. It’s a scenic location perfect for a day of angling.
A unique aspect of the syndicate is their collaboration with the Swarkestone Sailing Club. The sailing club has been generous in sharing their facilities, which has really helped in managing the gravel pit specifically for fishing. This cooperation enriches the overall experience for all members.
As for the fish stock, it's still a bit of a mystery. However, efforts are underway to establish a stocking policy. In recent years, although some famous fish were not evident, there have been credible sightings and reports of large catches. As the syndicate wraps up its first full year, the understanding of the lake's fish population is becoming clearer.
For those interested in knowing more, the club's website includes articles by local angler Matt Charlton for Carp Addict Magazine. These articles give a realistic idea of what Swarkestone offers and are worth a read.
The syndicate regularly holds open weekends where anglers can fish and get a feel of the club’s atmosphere. The next open weekend is from 27th to 30th July 2023.
