Swaramudra Dance Academy, located in Burlington, is a temple of dance where art is endorsed, emulated, and encouraged. Founded and previously run in Abu Dhabi, UAE, Swaramudra specializes in Indian dance forms such as Bharatnatyam, Kuchipudi, Mohiyattom, and Indian folk dances. With four batches of students in different age groups, the academy currently operates in three locations in Canada – Hamilton, Burlington, and Mississauga, with a fixed weekly schedule.
Sujatha Suresh, the founder and teacher at Swaramudra Dance Academy, is an accomplished Indian classical dance artist with a deep passion for showcasing Indian dance forms to the world. A Gold Medallist and 'A' graded artist with Doordarshan, Hyderabad, Sujatha has performed on over 350 stages, spreading art awareness across continents. She pays tribute to her gurus, including the late Guru Chandrasekharan and Guru V S Ramamurthi, for her initial training in dance.
Committed to the world of art, Sujatha continues her intense pursuit of knowledge in classical dance forms while working as a teacher in the Halton School Board and serving as the Cultural Secretary to the South Asian Association in Hamilton, Ontario. Swaramudra Dance Academy aims to honour the sacred bond between a guru and their student, providing a space for students to immerse themselves in the purity of dance and find a union of the soul and body.
