SWAGS (Sorell Walking Around Group) is a sports club located in the Sorell Council area of Tasmania, Australia. The club aims to promote physical activity and community engagement through regular walking sessions.
Led by the passionate Walk Organiser, Madeline, SWAGS welcomes individuals who enjoy walking and want to improve their overall health and well-being. The group currently consists of 25 members, and new members are always encouraged to join.
The walking sessions take place every Wednesday at 9:30 am, offering a regular and consistent opportunity for participants to engage in physical activity. The walks typically last between 45 to 60 minutes, providing a moderate pace suitable for individuals of varying fitness levels.
While dogs are not permitted to accompany walkers, the group offers a friendly and supportive environment for individuals to connect with like-minded individuals and enjoy the benefits of walking together.
The meeting point for the walks is the reception area of the Sorell Community Health Centre, located at 57 Cole Street, Sorell, 7172. This convenient location allows for easy access and ensures that participants can gather before commencing their walks.
SWAGS is associated with other walking groups in the area, such as the Sorell Nordic Wanderers Walking Group and Sorell Gourmet Walkers Walking Group. This provides opportunities for members to connect with walkers from different groups and expand their social networks.
The group can be easily found and joined on social media platforms such as Facebook, where a dedicated SWAGS group is available for members to engage with one another, share their walking experiences, and receive updates on upcoming walks.
SWAGS is proudly supported by the National Heart Foundation of Australia, which recognises the importance of walking as a form of physical activity and its numerous health benefits. The group aligns with the foundation's mission to improve heart health and reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases.
In addition to promoting physical activity, SWAGS also offers a personal walking plan to help individuals achieve their health and wellness goals. This six-week programme aims to improve participants' overall health and happiness through regular walking.
The club is inclusive and supportive of healthcare professionals who can refer their patients to the structured and motivational walking programme. By combining medical care with the benefits of walking in a group setting, the programme aims to help patients meet national physical activity guidelines and enhance their overall well-being.
SWAGS has had a positive impact on its members, as evidenced by Maria, a group walker who shared her inspiring journey. Through consistent walking, Maria was able to overcome weight-related health issues and improve her overall health and well-being.
By joining SWAGS, individuals can become part of a vibrant walking community, connect with others who share a common interest in walking, and experience the physical and mental benefits that regular walking can bring. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced walker, SWAGS provides a welcoming and supportive environment for all.
