Ryu Karate-Do (SVJ) was founded in Dublin 3 with the intention of providing a welcoming and inclusive environment for individuals and families to learn the art of karate. SVJ Karate Club, as the school is commonly known, offers free introductory classes to allow prospective students the opportunity to experience the benefits of karate without any financial commitment.
The club prides itself on promoting values such as self-control, discipline, respect, and perseverance, rather than focusing solely on physical techniques. All instructors at SVJ Karate Club are Garda vetted and have undergone CPR training to ensure the safety and well-being of all students.
At SVJ Karate Club, students are encouraged to strive for personal growth and excellence through regular gradings and evaluations. Gradings are conducted by visiting Japanese Karate masters twice yearly, with high ranking Irish Sensei also able to conduct gradings in between. The technical requirements for each grade can be found in the SKIF Syllabus, with a total of nine grades to be achieved before the coveted black belt.
The club operates on Monday and Thursday evenings for beginners, intermediates, and advanced students, with special training times scheduled throughout the year. Fees are kept affordable to cover club expenses, with a term fee structure in place for juniors, students, and seniors. A valid SKIF licence is required to hold a grade in karate, with the cost of the licence included in the term fee.
SVJ Karate Club is run by volunteers who are passionate about sharing their love for karate with the community. The club's ethos is one of camaraderie, perseverance, and dedication, inspired by the famous words of Bruce Lee and Winston Churchill. Join SVJ Karate Club today to begin your journey towards physical fitness, mental clarity, and personal growth.
