Sunnybank Sprinters – MacGregor is a sports club located in Brisbane that offers swimming lessons and training for individuals of all ages and abilities. To ensure that swimmers are placed in the appropriate level of the Learn to Swim or Squad Programmes, the club offers assessment sessions which can be organised via email. The club has two locations for training sessions: Our Lady of Lourdes School Pool in Sunnybank and MacGregor State School in MacGregor.
Squad training at Sunnybank Sprinters consists of four levels: Stingray, Mini Squad, Blue Squad, and Gold Squad. Each level focuses on developing specific skills and techniques, as well as introducing swimmers to conditioning and interval training sets. The entry requirements for each level are carefully outlined to ensure that swimmers are progressing consistent with their abilities.
The Stingray Squad, the entry-level, focuses on building endurance and teaching proper swimming techniques such as starts, turns, and finishes, in accordance with FINA swimming rules. The Mini Squad continues to develop skills in all four swimming strokes and introduces swimmers to conditioning and interval training sets.
The Blue Squad aims to further enhance stroke techniques and racing skills while working on aerobic and anaerobic capacity, speed, strength, and flexibility. The Gold Squad, the most advanced level, focuses on individual development, emphasising nutrition, stretching, goal setting, competition, and good sportsmanship. Members of the Gold Squad are also integrated into the gym programme conducted at Sunnybank.
