Sunningdale Bowling Club, located in Ascot, is a well-established and friendly bowling club that welcomes members of all ages and abilities. Affiliated with BOWLS ENGLAND and R. C. B.
A. , Sunningdale Bowling Club offers a range of activities, club news, and a rich history for both new and experienced bowlers to enjoy.
Founded in 1913, the club initially resided in Church Road, Sunningdale. However, in 1921, the club moved to its current location on Whitmore Lane due to the sale of the land. Mrs. Kruse generously donated a piece of land from the Cahally Estate, under the condition that it would only be used for bowling or as a sports ground.
This ensures that the club's heritage and purpose will be preserved for future generations.
The club's facilities have evolved over the years to meet the needs of its members. The original pavilion was sadly destroyed during the bombing in 1940 but was replaced with a wooden pavilion. In 1962, electric lighting and a bar were installed, further enhancing the club's amenities. The current clubhouse, constructed in 1985, stands as a testament to the dedication and progress of the members who have continuously worked towards improving the club.
New members are always welcome at Sunningdale Bowling Club, regardless of their skill level. The club offers reduced-price memberships for new bowlers, making it accessible to everyone. The club encourages interested individuals to email enquiries@sunningdalebowling. Uk for more information on joining and to schedule a trial lesson.
The knowledgeable and friendly members of Sunningdale Bowling Club are always happy to assist newcomers, whether it's by providing guidance or directing them to additional resources.
Sunningdale Bowling Club also offers short mat (indoor) sessions starting from the 11th of October for the 2023/4 season. These sessions take place on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 2pm to 4pm. These indoor sessions provide an opportunity for members to continue playing bowls throughout the year and ensure that the club remains active and thriving.
Getting started with the sport is not overly expensive, as the necessary equipment, such as flat-soled bowling shoes and second-hand bowls, can be easily obtained. Members of the club are more than willing to share their knowledge and help new bowlers find the right resources to kick-start their bowling journey.
