Sumner Valley Riding School is a small, family-owned and run horse riding school located in the stunning Sumner Valley of Christchurch's Banks Peninsula. With over 20 years of experience, we have been dedicated to caring for horses and teaching riding and jumping to people of all ages and riding abilities.

We offer a range of services to cater to everyone's needs. Our horse riding lessons are available for both kids and adults, and we offer private and group lessons to accommodate different preferences. Whether you are a complete beginner or an experienced rider, our knowledgeable and experienced instructors will ensure that you have the perfect experience tailored to your abilities.

In addition to regular riding lessons, we also offer various other services. Our holiday programmes provide a fun and educational experience for children during school breaks. We also host birthday parties and unicorn parties, making them a memorable and magical experience. Furthermore, we provide equine therapy for those who are unable to participate in riding lessons but still wish to spend time with our horses.

Our experienced staff members will guide you through private 'groundwork sessions' to help you connect with our gentle and calming horses.

At Sumner Valley Riding School, we are also passionate about coaching for competitions and events. Whether you are aiming to participate in local competitions or take your riding to the next level, our instructors can provide the guidance and training you need to achieve your goals.

Membership options are available for those who wish to commit to riding on a regular basis. We offer memberships by month, term, or year, allowing riders to enjoy consistent and convenient access to our facilities and lessons.

For those looking to capture special moments with our beautiful horses and ponies, we offer photography sessions. Our picturesque property provides the perfect backdrop for engagements, weddings, birthdays, or any other occasion you wish to commemorate. Please note that we do not provide photography services but welcome photographers and videographers to utilise our facilities.

Sumner Valley Riding School is committed to providing a safe and enjoyable environment for both riders and horses. We also provide all necessary riding equipment, including saddles and grooming tools.
