Dance Ireland is excited to announce the Studio Light Moves Open Futures 2024 initiative in partnership with Light Moves Festival. This residency-based lab space aims to fuel creative exploration in dance, technology, and screen-based practices. Dance artists and digital media artists are invited to collaborate and delve into the intersection of dance and various forms of media.
In its third year, Open Futures has teamed up with Dance Limerick, Limerick City Gallery of Art, and the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance at the University of Limerick, along with the new makerspace facilities at University of Limerick's DMARC. The program offers selected pairs of artists two one-week residency periods in Limerick, Ireland in June and December, allowing time for development between residencies.
The focus is on pushing boundaries and experimenting with methods that enhance collaboration between dance and technology in diverse settings such as stage, gallery, interaction, installation, and outdoor spaces. Masterclasses are also available covering a range of technical skills including video mapping, motion sensing, coding, immersive video, generative audio, and more.
Open Futures aims to support three pairs of artists with financial assistance, studio space, technical equipment, accommodation, travel costs, mentoring sessions, and critical exchange talks/workshops. This is a fantastic opportunity for artists looking to explore new challenges and opportunities within performance contexts. Join Dance Ireland in this exciting journey of creative exploration and interdisciplinary exchange.
