Streetfunk Newhaven Hub is a renowned dance school located in BN9, offering a wide range of street dance classes for children and teenagers. Founded by JP Omari, a highly acclaimed and award-winning Hip Hop dancer, teacher, coach, and choreographer, Streetfunk is dedicated to inspiring and positively impacting young individuals through the art of street dance.
With classes catering to students aged 4 to 18 years old, Streetfunk is committed to creating confident individuals by emphasising not only the technical skills of street dance but also the qualities of hard work, discipline, and respect. While Hip Hop dance is the focal point of the school's activities, JP believes in instilling important life skills in his students, helping them become decent, respectable, and confident individuals.
The dance classes at Streetfunk provide children with a platform to freely express themselves and have fun through dance. In addition to learning various dance routines and techniques, students also learn the importance of teamwork, self-expression, and personal growth. Through the guidance of talented choreographers and experienced instructors, Streetfunk aims to foster an infectious energy within the school, creating an environment that motivates, inspires, and gives purpose to its students.
Streetfunk offers membership packages, with each package allowing students to attend 2 hours of classes per week. These include Streetfunk Class Crew, which focuses on Hip Hop and foundations, as well as solo, fun, and artistry sessions. Members also gain access to an online database with over 200 dance tutorials across all levels, along with the opportunity to participate in the school's grand end-of-year production, 'Straight Up'.
As a testament to the school's dedication and impact, Streetfunk is proud to have Tony Mortimer, a member of the renowned British pop group East 17, as its patron. Mortimer acknowledges the incredible work done by Streetfunk in working with young people from diverse backgrounds, using music and dance to positively influence their lives. He highlights how Streetfunk allows individuals to express themselves, develop motivation and direction, and experience the liberating energy of art.
JP Omari, the founder of Streetfunk, holds a prominent position in the UK dance scene. He has garnered numerous awards and recognition for his talent and has performed, taught, and judged competitions globally. JP was the UK's first breakdancer to participate in a reality TV dance show, reaching the semi-finals of the BBC's Strictly Dance Fever in 2006. He has also collaborated with chart-topping artists such as Dizzee Rascal, Sean Paul, and Orbital.
JP is a founding member of the Floor Crusaders bboy crew and the Urban Playground Team, which combines Parkour with dance in unique, site-specific street performances.
At Streetfunk Newhaven Hub, students not only learn the art of street dance but also develop essential life skills, gain confidence, and find their passion for self-expression. With its dedicated instructors, inspiring atmosphere, and emphasis on personal growth, Streetfunk provides a transformative dance experience for young individuals in BN9 and its surrounding areas.
