We pride ourselves on being a welcoming and inclusive chess club. Whether you are a seasoned player seeking competitive matches or a beginner looking to improve your skills, you will find a place at Streatham & Brixton Chess Club. We offer one of the most affordable membership packages in London, with a reduced rate for the first year of membership. If you prefer casual games of friendly chess, there is no fee to join.
Our club has a rich history, dating back more than 150 years. Throughout the years, we have maintained a strong membership base with over 40 active players. We organise a full calendar of events, including up to three matches per week during the league season, as well as social chess gatherings year-round. We participate in various chess leagues, such as the London Chess League, Central London Chess League, Croydon and District League, and Surrey League.
Furthermore, we are also part of the Online 4 Nations Chess League.
Our main venue for weekly social chess is Streatham Library, located on Streatham High Road. We occasionally hold club events at the Caf at St. Thomas Church, Telford Avenue, off Streatham Hill. Young chess enthusiasts are welcome to join our Tuesday sessions at Streatham Library, and talented junior players have opportunities to compete in our league teams.
In addition to our regular chess activities, we are proud to have had a group of members who contributed to the widely-read Streatham & Brixton Chess Blog. The blog has been recognised as the Website of the Year by the English Chess Federation and provides a platform for chess-related articles and discussions.
If you are interested in joining Streatham & Brixton Chess Club, we encourage you to drop by one of our Tuesday sessions at Streatham Library or contact us for more information. Our club newsletters are also available for download from our website, offering insights into recent club activities.
We value privacy and have club policies in place to protect our members' personal information. If you have any questions or queries, please feel free to reach out to us through our contact page.
Thank you for visiting Streatham & Brixton Chess Club, and we hope to see you at one of our events soon.
