Hey everyone,
Just popping in with a quick note from Alex, our organiser at Stone Crown Bowling Club 🏆. As you know, the club is nestled right here in Stone, UK, and has been the hub for Crown Green Bowling since 1892. Alex and the team couldn't be prouder of the welcoming, community-focused vibe we’ve all built together.
The goal here is simple: get as many folks as possible involved in the sport. We've got regular bowling sessions and love supporting local groups through fundraising events. Our pavilion and green are always buzzing with activities – it's all about fostering inclusivity and community spirit.
For those who fancy a bit of variety, we’ve got both outdoor and indoor bowling options. Winter doesn’t slow us down a bit. Indoor bowls and games evenings keep the fun rolling right through the year. And let's not forget our jam-packed social event calendar – plenty of chances to catch up off the green.
Membership is super inclusive – everyone from the young to those young at heart are welcome. Alex and the team believe bowling should be a blast for all.
Our clubhouse, finished in 2008, has all the essentials – changing rooms, toilets (including disabled access), a kitchen, office, and a function room with stunning views over Stone, the Shropshire Hills, and The Wrekin. Plus, the private car park is a nice touch for convenience.
The green is our pride and joy, kept in top shape by our dedicated members. It’s big too – 35.5 metres square. Safety’s a top priority, with qualified first-aiders around and a defibrillator in the clubhouse foyer.
During bowling season (April to September), there's something on every week. Social Bowling is on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays afternoons, and Friday evenings. Fancy something more competitive? Jump into our longer games or internal competitions. Special events like Barbecue & Bowling Day and Charity Day are always a hit and offer great socialising opportunities.
We’re also big on mingling with other local clubs – friendly matches and Away Days, complete with a meal to wrap up the day, are a regular fixture.
In the off-season (October to March), indoor options include short mat bowling twice a week at the clubhouse and long mat sessions at Tamworth. We even organise winter bowling holidays to places like Norfolk and Tenerife. It's all about keeping the fun going year-round.
For non-bowling fun, we’ve got loads happening – coffee mornings, themed social evenings, and games like skittles, whist, bridge, and more. Plus, the SCARABS, our walking group, is perfect for those who like a bit of a ramble followed by a good lunch.
The club runs smoothly thanks to the surplus from these events, covering all the day-to-day costs.
Cheerio,
Alex 🌟
