Welcome to Stokenchurch Judo Club, a fun and friendly club located in High Wycombe. With over 30 years of experience, we are proud to be a part of our local community and have witnessed some of our players compete at Olympic and Commonwealth levels. However, our main focus is on fostering club spirit and providing a sport for individuals of all ages and abilities.
One of our main features is our child classes, where we offer lessons for children aged 5 years and older. With over 150 members, we ensure that there is a training partner for everyone. In these classes, children learn the fundamentals of Judo, develop their skills, and have the opportunity to compete in competitions if desired.
For adults, Judo is a fantastic sport that is suitable for individuals of all ages and abilities. It is an excellent way to increase fitness, strength, and learn self-defence. Whether you have aspirations to compete at the highest levels or simply want to tone your body, our club is the perfect place for you.
At Stokenchurch Judo Club, we provide all the necessary resources to support your Judo journey. Whether you are a beginner or ready to attain your black belt, we have a wide range of downloads and information available for you to access.
The history of our club is deeply rooted in the local community. We were formed after a Judo display at Stokenchurch Fire Station Open Day caught the attention of local residents. In 1982, we opened our doors in the drama room of Bartholomew Tipping Secondary School, with Ron Cleere and Leon Stratford as our coaches. Nigel Grunwell later joined our coaching team and both Ron and Nigel continue to coach at the club to this day.
Over the years, we have had significant growth and have had to relocate several times. Currently, our club practises twice a week at the Stokenchurch Centre, which is located in Bartholomew Tipping Way, Stokenchurch. We are proud to cater to everyone, including individuals with special needs such as Down's Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Autism, and learning difficulties. We encourage these players to participate in competitions both locally and internationally.
In 2007, Stokenchurch Judo Club achieved the Bronze Level of the British Judo Association Club Recognition Scheme and the Sport England Clubmark, highlighting our commitment to providing a safe and welcoming environment for all our members.
