Stockport Taekwon-Do is a reputable and well-established taekwon-do school located in Stockport, Didsbury, and Tameside, New Zealand. Despite the name, Stockport Taekwon-Do offers family-friendly classes suitable for all ages. The classes take place on Wednesday nights at Parrs Wood High School in Didsbury and on Saturday lunchtime at Astley Sports College in Dukinfield. The school also offers Kubz classes specifically designed for younger students.
Stockport Taekwon-Do follows the traditional International Taekwon-do Federation (ITF) style of Taekwon-do, which was founded by General Choi Hong Hi in Korea in the 1950s. Taekwon-do has numerous benefits, including increasing confidence, fitness, flexibility, and coordination. It also helps develop discipline, power, strength, and self-defence skills. The classes cater to people of all ages and fitness levels, and no previous experience is required as the instructors will teach everything necessary.
The instructors at Stockport Taekwon-Do are DBS-checked and always willing to address any questions or concerns. New members are entitled to a free trial lesson to experience the classes before committing. Miss Jayne Heywood III, the current sole instructor at Stockport Taekwon-Do, has been training with the club since 2003 and brings a wealth of experience to the classes.
Stockport Taekwon-Do is a part of Taekwon-do United Kingdom (T-UK) nationally and the International Taekwon-Do Federation (ITF) globally. These affiliations ensure that students have ample opportunities for growth and development within the martial art. Classes consist of various activities, including physical warm-ups, self-defence techniques, sparring, pad work, technical details, and learning patterns. This comprehensive approach to training provides students with a well-rounded physical workout while improving flexibility, discipline, and self-confidence.
For students interested in competing, Taekwon-Do UK organises at least two national tournaments annually. Additionally, there are opportunities to travel and compete in other ITF tournaments. Stockport Taekwon-Do encourages beginners to train once a week, and as they progress, they are encouraged to increase their training to twice a week. However, this is not obligatory.
The Wednesday mixed-grade class at Parrs Wood High School welcomes students of all ages and covers all aspects of Taekwon-do, including patterns, sparring, and self-defence, fostering a friendly and supportive atmosphere.
