St Ives Sailing Club, helmed by the seasoned sailor James, has been the go-to place for sailors of all levels since 1972. Located in the picturesque St Ives in the UK, this club makes sure everyone feels welcome, even if you don't have your own boat. They’ve got a fleet of 8 boats ready for you to use for a small donation. And if you're short on formal training, just jump in as crew with one of the regulars.
Every Wednesday evening and Saturday afternoon during spring and summer, you'll find club sailing sessions in St Ives Bay. Sessions kick off depending on the weather and daylight. If you’re visiting and already know your way around a boat, you’re welcome to join the action.
For the competitive bunch, James has planned handicap fleet races to keep things fair. Saturdays feature two races starting at 2:00 PM, and Wednesdays have one race starting at 7:00 PM, or 6:30 PM if light’s fading. Check out more details in the Notices of Race section.
If a chilled sailing vibe is more your thing, the club’s got safety boats and, occasionally, friendly dolphins for company. Most boats are privately owned, but a few club boats are available for training and casual sails.
Once a year, St Ives Sailing Club hosts a regatta that welcomes visiting boats. Non-sailors can also get involved by helping out on the safety boat or acting as race officers at the lighthouse on Smeaton's Pier.
You'll find the club’s cabin and boat yard at the back of The Sloop car park in the heart of St Ives. Drop by and say hello! James and the club’s tight-knit committee keep things running smoothly, but they always welcome enthusiastic members to join in and help out. No special skills needed—just your time and energy. Those with special talents are particularly encouraged to get in touch.
Safety is a big deal at St Ives Sailing Club. They’ve got a Safeguarding Draught Policy, reviewed at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) and regularly updated by the Welfare Officer. Members and guardians are advised to check it out and bring up any questions at the AGM.
