Club de Voile St-Francois, located in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, is a non-profit organization based at the marina that aims to bring together sailing enthusiasts. Whether you own a sailboat or not, you are welcome to join us and participate in regattas, cruises, member dinners, or simply to make new connections and share the passion that we all have for sailing. The St-Francois Sailing Club is dedicated to promoting the sport of sailing and fostering a sense of community among its members.
The club organizes races for sailors of all levels of experience, from beginners to seasoned sailors. Captains must have a good understanding of sailing rules to participate, but those new to racing can join a crew to learn about the race format and regulations. Participants who wish to sail their own boat can receive assistance from experienced club members on board. Racing is a great way to improve sailing skills and learn more about the sport.
Race entry fees are ten (10) dollars per crew per race, with races taking place on Saturdays during the months of June, August, and September. Captains gather at 9 am in front of the CVSF clubhouse (grey building, blue door near Dock 1 of the Valleyfield marina), with races starting between 10 am and 11 am. Crew members are also welcome to join, and no sailing experience is necessary. Interested individuals can sign up through the club's website, Facebook page, or simply show up at the designated time in the schedule.
Even if your boat is not the fastest, you still have a chance to win races. Each boat receives a handicap at the beginning of the season to compensate for speed differences between different types of boats. Additionally, slower boats start before faster ones, allowing for a more even competition and an exciting finish. The St-Francois Sailing Club encourages participation and camaraderie among sailors of all skill levels, creating a welcoming environment for all who share a love for sailing.
