About
Welcome to Steel Wheels Rugby, a dynamic and inclusive wheelchair rugby club based in Edmonton, Alberta. Established in 2000, our club was founded by a passionate group of quadriplegic athletes, some of whom still actively participate in the sport today. We are proud to be a part of the vibrant sports community in the City of Champions.
Steel Wheels Rugby competes against teams from across Canada in various club invitational tournaments, as well as developing provincial players for Team Alberta. Our members have traveled to cities such as Houston, Portland, and Seattle to showcase their skills and passion for the sport. In addition to our competitive schedule, we also volunteer our time at rehabilitation hospitals and schools to raise awareness about disability sport and promote an “I can” attitude among individuals with disabilities.
Wheelchair rugby is a mixed-gender sport, with players classified based on their level of ability from 0. 5 to 3. 5 points. The total classification value of players on the court cannot exceed eight points at any given time.
Athletes with disabilities affecting the arms and legs, such as spinal cord injuries, cerebral palsy, and amputations, participate in this high-energy, full-contact sport.
If you are interested in volunteering with Steel Wheels Rugby or trying out this exciting sport, please reach out to us via email or our contact form.
