St. Botolph's & District Bowls Club, set up in '77, is right there on Fen Lane, Rickinghall, Diss, Suffolk (IP22 1DR). Robert Foulger led the charge to merge the Rickinghall and Botesdale Clubs, bringing together bowlers from both villages who'd been playing for years on pub or house greens, like those at Bank House and The Hollies.
The club’s got a cracking pavilion and a top-notch green that’s been home to some serious wins. Sandy Sargeant, Viv Sword, and Julia Maycock snagged the Suffolk Ladies Championship in 2014. Two years later, the juniors took the Area 'D' cup, and Sandy also clinched the County Senior Ladies title. Viv and Julia smashed it again in the Bury League Ladies Pairs in 2016. Sandy kept the momentum going, grabbing the national title in Ladies 2 Wood Singles in 2018.
In June 2019, they rolled out the ‘Honorary Life Members Board’ at the President's Dinner, celebrating legends like E Baxter, G Hails, C Foskett, and A Foulger, not forgetting the wives of honorary members.
Even though the website’s getting a facelift, Robert and the team keep things buzzing with news and events updates. They’re all about getting everyone involved, so if you’ve got ideas or want to take on a role, chuck in your nominations or suggestions at the AGM. Maureen Costello, the club secretary, is your go-to for anything proposal or nomination related.
Big thanks to all the members and the community for their solid support — St. Botolph's wouldn’t be what it is without your dedication.
