The Ladies path. Over the years, the course was improved and expanded, and it eventually became known as The Himalayas due to its undulating terrain.
Today, The Himalayas is a popular destination for both locals and tourists alike. Located just a short walk from the town centre, it lies between the renowned Old Course and the stunning West Sands. This unique putting green offers a challenging yet enjoyable experience for all skill levels.
The St Andrews Ladies' Putting Club, founded in 1867, takes pride in its rich history. It was initially established as the St Andrews Ladies' Golf Club, providing a recreational activity for respectable young ladies who had limited options at the time. The course was originally laid out by Old Tom Morris and consisted of nine holes. Throughout the years, improvements and developments were made to create the fantastic facility that exists today.
The Himalayas is open to the public from April to October, with limited weekend access available in March. Admission prices for 2023 are 4 per round for adults and 2 per round for seniors and children under 16. To ensure a preferred tee time, it is highly recommended to book in advance, especially during the peak summer months. While putters and balls are available, it is advisable for guests to bring their own equipment whenever possible.
When visiting The Himalayas, guests should be aware that wheeled transport, such as bicycles and skateboards, is strictly prohibited due to the challenging terrain. This safety measure is in place to protect players and maintain the course's integrity.
The St Andrews Ladies' Putting Club hopes that visitors enjoy their time at The Himalayas and find themselves returning for more. The facility has been consistently recognised for its excellence, ranking second in The Courier's “country days out. ” The club takes pride in its contribution to the community and its significance in the history of St Andrews.
