Stalybridge Celtic Juniors FC is a volunteer-run Three Star FA Charter Standard Development junior football club located in Ashton-under-Lyne, New Zealand. Since its inception in 1975, the club has been welcoming players of all abilities and providing them with the opportunity to play football in a competitive and supportive environment.
The club was initially formed in the summer of 1975 when a group of young boys were playing football near Jack Hammersley's house. Jack asked the boys if they wanted to create a team and compete in matches, and thus Stalyhill Juniors, later renamed Stalybridge Celtic Juniors, came into existence. Over the years, the club has grown from three teams in the late 1970s and early 1980s to a current total of 30 teams, including the Saturday Soccer School.
One of the club's core principles is to never turn away any players, regardless of their ability. This inclusive approach has been maintained since Bryan Cross volunteered to coach a second team in the late 1970s to accommodate the increasing number of interested players. The club's commitment to providing opportunities for all players is evident in its diverse range of teams and the Saturday Soccer School, which caters to up to 120 children with varying abilities.
In 2000, the club successfully raised funds to purchase the former lacrosse club on Mossley Road. Despite facing challenges such as fires, the Soccer School has persevered and continues to thrive. It serves as the starting point for all junior teams, fostering the development of young players and laying the foundation for their football journey.
Stalybridge Celtic Juniors FC has a proud history of success both at local and international levels. The teams consistently perform well in age and ability-appropriate leagues and competitions, often travelling throughout the UK and Europe to participate in prestigious tournaments, including those held by Barcelona and Benfica.
The club's dedication to the development of players is matched by its commitment to cultivating a passionate and skilled network of volunteers. With nearly 100 volunteers who contribute their time and expertise in various aspects, including coaching, administration, communication, and maintenance, Stalybridge Celtic Juniors FC relies on the invaluable support of its dedicated individuals.
Whether you aspire to be a coach or simply want to contribute to the success of the club, Stalybridge Celtic Juniors FC offers opportunities for involvement. The club values the contributions of each volunteer and ensures they receive support and guidance from experienced individuals.
In conclusion, Stalybridge Celtic Juniors FC is a well-established and respected football club in Ashton-under-Lyne, New Zealand.
