About

Experience the beauty of Aoraki Mount Cook National Park with the Spring Ski and split-board touring event hosted by Alpine Guides (Aoraki) Ltd. Nestled in the Liebig mountain range, the Falcon’s Nest and Lady Emily Huts provide a cosy and private base for intermediate to advanced ski and split-board touring. With helicopter access and a hut in the middle of the ski terrain, participants can enjoy varied days with light packs.

The tours run from late August to September, the best time of the ski season for reliable snow and longer days. Book as a group of up to 4 people and explore the stunning backcountry guided by professional experts. The tour offers plenty of easily accessed mellow terrain for less experienced skiers or riders. While instruction is not the focus, the high mountain environment presents challenges that require some specialised knowledge. Depending on your experience level, you may cover instructional topics to enhance your backcountry skills.

Winter 2024 Pricing starts from $3,075 NZD per person. The event starts at 9:00 AM on day one and finishes at 5:00 PM on the final day. Check-in is at the Alpine Guides office in Mount Cook Village. New Zealand Alpine Club Members can avail a 5% discount by using the promo code NZAC2324. Contact Alpine Guides to confirm the dates for winter 2024.

Explore the stunning Liebig Range, which offers a great variety of ski runs for all levels, with uphill routes linking three major valley systems. The Gammack Range, including Fork and Fraser Streams, provides unparalleled options for touring without the need for a glacial travel kit. The average length of the runs is 600-700 vertical meters, with a top elevation of 2,200-2,400 meters.

The event includes accommodation in well-serviced huts, including Lady Emily Hut with 10 bunks and the Falcon’s Nest with 8 bunks. Don't miss this amazing opportunity to experience the thrill of backcountry skiing and split-boarding in the picturesque Aoraki Mount Cook National Park.
