Our Vision - To be the voice of sport in New South Wales
Our Mission - To lead New South Wales sport in building connected, healthy and active communities
Our Values - Sport NSW is committed to the following values:
Sport NSW is the peak body for sport in New South Wales. It operates as an independent not-for-profit organisation representing the sports industry.
Sport NSW was established in 1991 to provide a collective voice for sport to enhance its capacity to provide access to and deliver quality experiences for participants & volunteers.
Sport NSW's strategy is built on three (3) pillars, namely:
Sport NSW represents the interests of more than 80 State Sporting Organisations and 20 industry bodies.
Collectively State Sporting Organisations are responsible for the delivery of sport to an audience of 3.5 million participants annually - ranging in size from 700 members in smaller organisations to 200,000 participants in larger sports.
In addition, 670,200 adult volunteers in New South Wales provide lifeblood for sport - acting in the capacity of coaches, officials, administrators, media liason and fund raising champions.
From a national perspective sport promotes physical activity leading to reduced health care costs of $1.49 billion per annum and improved labour productivity of 1% of GDP or $12 billion per year.
Typically, Sport NSW acts on behalf of its members to raise awareness and/or take carriage of issues that impact on the safety, resources and well-being of groups and individuals within the sport sector.
In practical terms this means representing sport at ministerial level, partnering with organisations and agencies for the benefit of industry members, and working at national level through Community Sport Australia to advocate and address key issues.
Recognition & NetworkingA key plank of Sport NSW's strategy is to work with members to build standards industry-wide usually through showcasing best practice.
An important element of this strategy is the awards program which provides a tangible means of recognising outstanding achievements of organisations and individuals within the sporting community.
Sport NSW conducts two (2) state-wide awards events annually, namely:
Knowledge ShareSport NSW provides education and training to share best practice industry-wide.
Training takes the form of accredited courses, workshops, and seminars focused on building the capacity and performance of member organisations, their affiliates and individuals.
