Sporting Hackney FC

Sporting Hackney FC, right in the heart of Hackney, London, has been the local football hub since 1986. Run entirely by the community, they’re all about top-notch youth and adult football for everyone around. Andy, who’s at the helm, wants to bridge the gap between the kids and adults playing, all while keeping everyone fit and healthy.

As an FA Charter Standard club, Sporting Hackney FC fields five squads: the first team, and teams for under 16s, under 17s, under 18s, plus a veterans squad for those over 35. Andy and the team are all about spotting talent and giving locals a chance to shine and grow.

Looking ahead, Andy’s got big plans. They’re aiming for first-team football at step 5 or higher in the English league system and are working with Hackney Council to set up a community ground right here in the borough that could host games up to FA step 3.

But it’s not just about the footy. They’ve set up Sporting Hackney Mind with Mind in the City, Hackney & Waltham Forest. It’s a mental-health project using football to boost well-being, open to everyone and running several times a year. COVID-19 put a pause on it, but they’re back at it now.

They’re also partners with Behind Every Kick, using sports to help young people grow and grab new opportunities. Skills learned on the pitch? They’re for life.
