Spitfire Gymnastics Club, formerly known as Chamberlayne Gymnastics, is a co-ed community club located in Southampton, New Zealand. The club was founded by Sue Maher and Julie Tanner on September 1st, 2000, and is situated at Chamberlayne Leisure Centre on Weston Lane. Spitfire Gymnastics aims to be a “Club For All,” catering to individuals of all ages and abilities.
As one of the few gymnastics clubs in Southampton, Spitfire GC is dedicated to providing a safe and happy environment for gymnasts of all genders, from toddlers to adults. The club is a British Gymnastics accredited 'Gym Mark' club, ensuring that all coaches and assistants have undergone enhanced DBS checks and possess relevant qualifications as required by the British Gymnastics governing body.
Spitfire Gymnastics offers various gymnastics programmes, including general gymnastics, tumbling, trampolining, and adult gymnastics. They also have specialised programmes such as disability gymnastics and TeamGym. The club has competition and development squads for those who show promise and dedication, providing extra training sessions and the opportunity to compete at county, regional, and national competitions and festivals.
In celebration of its 20th year anniversary in September 2020, Spitfire Gymnastics Club created a video showcasing photos of competitions and events over the years. The club expresses its gratitude to all the gymnasts, coaches, and parents who have supported them throughout their existence, from their days as Chamberlayne Gymnastics to the present as Spitfire Gymnastics Club.
