Boxing Club is a local and friendly martial arts school located in Thornbury, South Gloucestershire, just north of Bristol. The club offers classes in the traditional and systematic martial art of Wu Shu Kwan, also known as Chinese Boxing. With a rich history and a focus on self-defence, Wu Shu Kwan South West aims to train both the body and mind to achieve positive health and effective skills.
Chinese Boxing, often referred to as practical Kung Fu in the western world, is an ancient Chinese art of self-defence. It is aimed at progressively training individuals to defend themselves at all times while promoting overall well-being. Wu Shu Kwan South West is proud to be part of the world-wide Wu Shu Kwan organisation, which allows members and instructors to train with highly ranked martial artists, including Grand Master C. K.
Chang, an 8th Degree Black Belt and the highest authority on Chinese Boxing.
The history of Chinese Boxing dates back thousands of years and has been practised by the Chinese for military survival skills. The art has its roots in the famous Shaolin Temple in China, which has played a significant role in its development and spread throughout the East. Wu Shu Kwan, established over 40 years ago, now has branches all over the world and maintains a high standard of instruction in all its classes.
South West Wu Shu Kwan was formed when Andrew and Helen Gregory moved from London and continued their training in Wu Shu Kwan. Andrew, one of the instructors at the club, still regularly trains with Grand Master C. Chang in London. The club offers classes at various locations, including Charfield Memorial Hall in Charfield every Thursday from 7:30pm to 9:30pm, and Alexander Hosea School in Wickwar every Sunday from 9:30am to 11:30am.
Additionally, the club organises regular trips to London to train with Grand Master C. Chang.
Whether one is a beginner or an experienced martial artist, Wu Shu Kwan South West welcomes individuals of all skill levels. The club provides a supportive and inclusive environment for anyone looking to learn and excel in Chinese Boxing. For more information on Chinese Boxing and Grand Master C. Chang, please visit the club's website or the official Wu Shu Kwan website.
