Are you the owner of South Gurukul Society?

Founded by the esteemed solo performer and choreographer Sutapa Talukdar, South Gurukul Society stands as a venerable institution dedicated to the timeless art of Odissi dance. Since its inception on January 4th, 1987, Gurukul has flourished in the tranquil residential area of Southend Park in Kolkata. Here, tradition gracefully intertwines with modernity, creating an inspiring environment where students can immerse themselves in the intricate rhythms and expressive movements that define Odissi.
The heartbeat of South Gurukul Society is its community spirit and dedication to inclusivity. The main centre at 59A Southend Park is a sanctuary for dance enthusiasts from various walks of life. Furthering its mission of accessibility, a branch centre was inaugurated on May 25th, 2015, at Remount Road, thanks to the generous support of the Kolkata Post Trust. This initiative proudly serves students from underprivileged backgrounds, reinforcing the belief that the transformative power of dance should know no boundaries.
Gurukul's commitment extends beyond instruction; it is also a nucleus of cultural activities and scholarly research through its 'Creative Wing.' This facet of Gurukul delves deep into the cultural tapestry of dance, seeking to innovate while preserving traditions. Under Sutapa Talukdar’s visionary leadership, Gurukul continues to be a beacon of artistic excellence and cultural enrichment.
At South Gurukul Society, dance is more than an art form; it's a communal journey towards self-discovery and expression. Welcoming students of all ages and backgrounds, Gurukul fosters a nurturing environment where everyone can experience the joy and discipline of dance, ensuring that the rich heritage of Odissi continues to inspire future generations.
