Kate would like to extend a warm invitation to all members of the sports community to South Farm Stables, a well-regarded horse riding school situated on the charming Kent and Sussex border between Groombridge and Langton Green. With over 50 years of experience, Kate and her team specialise in teaching children and helping nervous adults gain confidence in their riding skills.
As a fully licenced riding school, they've catered to a wide range of riders thanks to their variety of horses, from Dartmoor ponies to Thoroughbreds. Becoming a Pony Club linked Centre 5 years ago has only bolstered their reputation for providing excellent equestrian education.
The stables offer several options catering to different schedules and preferences. Children’s group lessons are available on weekends, with additional sessions during weekdays after school. School holiday programmes are always a hit, featuring the popular South Farm gymkhana games. For adults, lessons and escorted hacking are also available during the week.
South Farm Stables stands out due to its prime location with direct access to the RSPB nature reserve, Broadwater Warren. This picturesque area, characterised by woodlands, open heath-land, and abundant wildlife, is perfect for extended summer hacks, including pub rides. For those looking to advance their skills, there's a novice cross-country course and a full set of show jumps.
Facilities also include an enclosed, outdoor sand school that's floodlit, allowing year-round riding.
Lessons are designed to suit various needs, from group sessions with a maximum of 6 riders to private and semi-private lessons for 2 to 3 riders. During holidays, half-day courses teach horse care and riding. For the little ones, there's the Children's Walkabout, where a team member leads them around the farm on a trusted pony.
Safety and well-being are paramount at South Farm Stables. New customers must have an assessment lesson before going on a hack, and there is a weight limit of 11 stone for rider and horse comfort. Riders 5 years and older are accepted, with specific safety gear required. They also provide riding hats if you don’t have your own.
To book a lesson or for more information, you can call South Farm Stables at 01892 864807. Note that a cancellation policy is in place, with charges based on notice given, though they do offer the first missed lesson every 3 months free of charge for sick children.
Kate and her team are dedicated to ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for riders of all ages and abilities. Their passion, combined with experienced instructors and well-cared-for horses, ensures a positive and memorable experience for everyone involved.
