Southern Schoolmasters

Southern Schoolmasters is a Western horse riding club located in the Wild West of Surrey. As a Certified Equine Association (CEA) accredited facility, they offer high standards and a professional service within a relaxed, fun, and friendly atmosphere.

The club prides itself on providing regular, bespoke Horsemanship Clinics with first-class instruction from the UK's best demonstrators. They hire local arenas to ensure optimal learning environments for their members. To become a member of Southern Schoolmasters, you must have your own horse.

Guest trainers at Southern Schoolmasters include Andrew Plant and David Lloyd. Andrew Plant, a Rookie Pro Reserve European Champion, has years of professional experience and offers excellent tuition and knowledge for his clients. He specialises in problem-solving and helping clients overcome their issues, giving them the confidence to achieve their goals. Andrew believes in kind methods of starting young stock and training older horses in both Western and English style.

David Lloyd, a member of the Western Equestrian Society (WES) and a Western Judge, teaches the natural way to communicate with horses in a calm and gentle manner that the horses will understand.

The team at Southern Schoolmasters consists of Tina Aston and Kirsty Hewitt. Tina trains with Andrew Plant and is one of the UK's top Professional Reiners. She has also trained with renowned professionals such as Lee Rutter, David Deptford, Sam Magdaleno, Doug Allen, and David Lloyd. Tina is an accomplished horsewoman and now focuses on creating Clinics to suit all levels of riders and horses.

She established Southern Schoolmasters over 20 years ago and continues to grow the business.

Kirsty Hewitt has been riding since the age of 10 and working with horses since she was 14. She studied at Merrist Wood College and graduated with a first and national diploma after three years. Kirsty joined Southern Schoolmasters in October 2011 and is responsible for managing the running of the yard and the care of horses. She is a level 2 WES instructor and continues to develop her skills by training with Andrew Plant and David Lloyd.
