South Bank Cricket Club, also known as SBCC, is a sociable and inclusive cricket club located in south London. Established in 1892, the club has a rich history and is dedicated to providing an enjoyable cricket experience for players of all levels. SBCC's home ground is the Dulwich Sports Ground, situated at Turney Road, Dulwich, London, SE21 7JH.
The club was formerly known as Herne Hill Wanderers CC, South Bank Polytechnic CC, and Southbank CC. SBCC has strong ties with the Southwark Community Sports Trust (SCST), which manages the Dulwich Sports Ground. The ground was previously known as South Bank University Sports Ground (Polytechnic) and is located at 106-108 Turney Road, London, SE21 7JJ.
While SBCC has participated in league cricket in the past, the club now focuses on friendly fixtures against well-known local opposition. They have both Saturday and Sunday teams that play matches every weekend during the season. SBCC also takes part in mid-week London T20 cricket events, and they are affiliated with local and central London T20 cricket teams.
In addition to regular fixtures, SBCC players also participate in mid-week matches against schools as part of The Forty Club, a renowned wandering cricket club that promotes and encourages the game to youth players.
To enhance their skills, SBCC conducts outdoor practise net sessions at their cricket ground in Dulwich on every Wednesday evening, weather permitting. They also aim to organise indoor winter cricket net sessions at Dulwich Prep School, although this may be affected by Covid-19 restrictions.
Please note that SBCC is not currently accepting new players. However, they have strong connexions within the London cricket community and can assist individuals in joining a league or mid-week T20 cricket club.
Existing members of South Bank CC are encouraged to create or log in to their personal account on play-cricket. Com. By adding Southbank CC as their cricket team and providing updated contact details, members can ensure their statistics and records are accurately maintained. It also enables electronic scoring for future games.
SBCC is proudly sponsored by various organisations. They notably have a partnership with Woodstock Cricket Co. , based in Shropshire, which offers SBCC members a 20% discount on handcrafted cricket bats and equipment.
The club also highlights its Hall of Fame, showcasing the best bowling and batting figures, greatest victories and defeats, as well as impressive run chases. Notable players, such as Asif Ali, Jon Thornton, and Jon Peak, are celebrated in SBCC's Hall of Fame.
