Sonning Stingers, a women's cricket team affiliated with Sonning Cricket Club in Reading, is excited to promote their upcoming cricket event. Created with the goal of introducing more women to the sport, Sonning Stingers specialise in Soft Ball Cricket, a delightful version of the game that doesn't require advanced skills or high fitness levels. This format closely resembles junior-age cricket and can be enjoyed either indoors or outdoors. With a typical game lasting around 1.5 hours, it's a fantastic opportunity to have some fun on the pitch.
The team's journey began in 2020 when they organised their inaugural tournament, the friendly Ladies Soft Ball Cricket Tournament, where they showed great promise by finishing 4th among 5 competing teams. Unfortunately, the global pandemic interrupted their plans throughout the winter months. However, as summer rolled around in 2020, their numbers swelled impressively. Sonning Stingers extended a warm welcome to women of all ages, abilities, and sporting backgrounds to their outdoor training sessions. They engaged in friendly matches with experienced teams and also participated in various tournaments, ultimately remaining undefeated that year.
Their success continued in 2021 when they entered the fiercely competitive Berkshire Women's Soft Ball cricket league. Sonning Stingers demonstrated their skills and determination, earning an admirable 2nd place finish in the Berkshire WSB Finals. Additionally, they set out on a new adventure by forming their first hard ball team and joining the Home Counties Women's Cricket League. Such progress showcased their commitment to growth and improvement.
The year 2022 witnessed further achievements for Sonning Stingers, as they secured a commendable 3rd place in the Super 8s league while also securing the title of the Berkshire Women's Softball Champions. Fuelled by their passion and dedication, Sonning Stingers invite women of all ages to join their training sessions. Winter training takes place at Waingels, while their summer sessions are held at King Georges Field every Tuesday, from 6-8pm. They encourage anyone with an interest in cricket to drop by and see if it's the perfect fit for them. For additional information or inquiries, please contact 07831238784.
