SMAA Netball Club, also known as St Michael & All Angels Netball Club, is a well-established and highly regarded netball club located in West Beach, South Australia. With a current membership of approximately 300 junior and senior players, it is one of the largest clubs in the western suburbs.
The club is affiliated with SAUCNA (South Australian United Church Netball Association) and has been actively promoting and teaching the sport of netball since it was formally established in 1994. However, its roots can be traced back even further, with the club existing in some capacity for many years prior to its official formation.
The club started with just four teams comprising around 40 girls and initially played on the courts near the Henley Sharks Football Club. As the club began to grow rapidly in the late 1990s, it relocated to Cudmore Terrace, Henley Beach in 2000. This move was made possible through a collaborative effort with the local council and Henley High School, with all parties contributing to the establishment and development of the local facility.
Over the years, SMAA Netball Club has continued to expand and attract players from other clubs who are seeking to develop their skills and embrace the spirit of sportsmanship that the club has become known for. In 2013, the club moved its operations to the courts at Nazareth College in Flinders Park, and in 2017, it settled into its current home base at Marleston Sports Centre, located at 2 Retallack Ave, Marleston SA 5033. As of February 2023, the club has relocated to its new premises at 3 Military Road in West Beach.
With a dedicated committee and passionate volunteers, the club fosters a strong sense of community and provides a welcoming and inclusive environment for players, coaches, umpires, and parents. On game days, the club attracts up to 800 people including participants and spectators from various suburbs, drawing support from local businesses and the surrounding community.
The success of SMAA Netball Club is evident through the number of players who have been selected for representative teams at both state and international levels. The club prioritises the development and growth of its players, ensuring they have access to top-tier coaching, training facilities, and competitive opportunities.
For those interested in joining the club, registrations are open for junior players, open players, as well as coaching and team manager positions for both junior and senior teams. The club's website provides ladders, fixtures, and an online uniform shop for convenient access to all the necessary information and gear.
SMAA Netball Club operates in accordance with a constitution, which outlines the principles and guidelines that govern its operations. The constitution can be accessed as a PDF file on the club's website for interested parties to review.
The club extends its gratitude to its valuable sponsors, whose support is crucial in maintaining and enhancing the club's activities and facilities. SMAA Netball Club takes pride in its achievements and contributions to the netball community, and looks forward to welcoming new members to be a part of their netball journey.
