About

Slough Taekwondo Club is a well-established martial arts club located in Slough, Berkshire. The club was founded in 1979 by two Singapore Chinese brothers, Toh Kok Leong and Toh Kok Sum, who were studying at Slough College at the time. The club quickly gained popularity among young martial arts enthusiasts in the local community and produced several regional, national, and international Taekwondo champions between 1979 and 1984.

However, one of the brothers returned to Singapore, and the other got involved in the restaurant business, causing the club to disband. A group of dedicated members continued training in a multi-storey car park in Slough High Street before renting a hall at the local sports centre. The higher-ranking members took turns teaching their fellow students until Toh Kok Sum was invited to return as the Chief Instructor. However, due to work commitments, this arrangement was not permanent.

Eventually, a fifth dan Korean Master from Kenya was brought in to lead the club. Under their guidance, the club regained its status as the leading Taekwondo club in the UK, establishing itself as a recognised organisation within the Berkshire catchment area.

In 1993, one of the founding members, Robbie Lazan, took over as the Chief Instructor. The club faced financial struggles due to the lack of a proper structure in previous years. However, through years of restructuring and reconciliation, Slough Taekwondo Club was able to regain its position as a reputable organisation.

The club proudly celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2004, honouring those who remained dedicated and pushed the club forward. Today, Slough Taekwondo Club continues to thrive, offering training in a range of styles including Foundation/Classical Taekwondo, Sports Taekwondo, and Competition Training.

Training sessions are held on Tuesdays from 19:00 to 21:00 for Foundation/Classical Taekwondo, Thursdays from 19:00 to 21:00 for Sports Taekwondo, and Sundays from 13:00 to 15:00 for Competition Training.

The club believes in promoting the philosophy of Taekwondo, which goes beyond physical techniques and emphasises self-discipline, respect, and perseverance. The instructors and members are committed to creating a supportive and positive training environment where individuals can develop their physical and mental abilities.
