Slaithwaite Striders Running Club

Slaithwaite Striders Running Club, situated in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, is proud to engage and support runners of all levels, courtesy of David, your dedicated organiser. As a UKA Affiliated club, the Striders open their doors to everyone, from first-time joggers to seasoned athletes.

David's main aim with the club is to foster a healthy, active lifestyle through the joy of running. He believes in running not just for physical fitness but also for mental well-being, and has made sure to weave social opportunities into the club's fabric to help members forge new friendships.

Every Thursday evening, Slaithwaite Striders gather at Slaithwaite Cricket Club on Racton Street in Huddersfield. With a mix of road and off-road trails, the club offers diverse running routes to keep things interesting.

To accommodate varying skill levels, David has set up three main groups. The “Steady” group is perfect for beginners, maintaining a relaxed pace of 12 or more minutes per mile and keeping runs to about an hour on flatter terrain.

For intermediate runners, the “Swift” group picks up the pace, averaging around 10 or more minutes per mile over tougher terrains. Runs in this group last about an hour and 15 minutes.

Seasoned runners looking for a challenge will find it in the “Speedy” group. Here, you can expect a brisk pace of about eight minutes per mile over distances of seven miles or more, with routes including hills and varied terrains, lasting around an hour and a half.

Each group is led by an experienced runner, ensuring everyone feels supported and no one gets left behind. They regather at points throughout the route to keep the group cohesive.

David offers various membership options and even taster sessions, allowing new participants to join three runs before deciding to become a member. The annual membership fee goes towards essential aspects such as insurance, training, fees, and clubhouse facilities.
