Skye United Soccer Club, formerly known as Carrum United, has a rich history that dates back to 1982 when it first emerged in the Industrial and Amateur Soccer competition. However, it wasn't until the late 80s that the club experienced significant growth and attracted a new group of players who were seeking a more social atmosphere, complete with a bar. Some recognisable names, such as Chris Attard and Alan Busuttil, joined the club during this period, having previously played for Westall United.
In the early to mid-90s, the club found a new home at the Italo Australian Social Club Dandenong and gained entry into the Victorian Soccer Federation, now known as Football Federation Victoria. Unfortunately, in 2007, the Italo Australian Social Club was sold, leading Skye United to search for a new permanent location.
The club, already having a successful junior setup, secured Skye Recreation Reserve as its new home. Through the efforts of Frankston City, Carrum United Soccer Club, Skye Cricket Club, and with the support of MP Jude Perera, the clubroom underwent redevelopment to meet the requirements set by FFV for senior football competition. This relocation prompted the club to adopt a name that reflected its immediate surroundings, resulting in the birth of Skye United FC.
In 2013/14, Skye United FC, along with the City of Frankston and the State Government (SRV), successfully secured funding through the Strengthening World Game initiative. This funding allowed for significant improvements to Skye Recreation Reserve, including the expansion of playing surfaces, the installation of new drainage and irrigation systems, and the addition of six light towers, enabling night games up to State 1 level. Notably, Skye United FC was the only club in the City of Frankston at the time with such lighting facilities.
Throughout its history, the club has continuously invested in ground improvements. The hardworking operational committee has contributed to funding initiatives such as the clubroom redevelopment, ground redevelopment, portable light towers, and the installation of a cricket wicket during winter. The club remains committed to enhancing the facility for local residents and youth, and the recent pavilion upgrade, which was officially opened on March 11th, 2021, is a testament to that commitment.
Today, Skye United Soccer Club boasts a thriving community, with a strong emphasis on both junior and senior divisions. The club's vision is to provide a welcoming and inclusive environment for all players, fostering personal growth, team spirit, and a love for the game. Skye United FC is dedicated to building on its proud history and continuing to make a positive impact in the Skye community and beyond.
