The Singapore Xiangqi General Association, also known as SIXGA, is a prestigious chess club in Singapore with a rich history dating back to 1934. Originally established as an art group, SIXGA became a charity organisation in 2011 and successfully transitioned into an IPC charity organisation in 2017.
One of the club's crowning achievements was hosting the Southeast Asian Chess Championship in 1968, which led to the formation of the Asian Chess Federation in 1978. SIXGA also hosted the first World Chess Championship in 1990, contributing to the establishment of the World Chess Federation in Beijing in 1993. Over the years, SIXGA has organised various national and international chess competitions, including the “SunWenGuang” National Individual Championships and the “TuLong” National Individual Championships.
In addition to hosting tournaments, SIXGA invites local and international chess masters to conduct chess lectures and training courses. The club is dedicated to promoting Xiangqi among youth and cultivating new talent, as well as advancing the development of graphic chess pieces to encourage diversity in the sport.
The core values of SIXGA include excellence, integrity, tradition, and respect. The club's mission is to promote Xiangqi, foster friendship among enthusiasts, organise competitions, and globalise the sport.
SIXGA's current leadership team, headed by President Lin Guanhao and Vice Presidents Zhao Jinshan and Su Tianfu, is committed to upholding the club's values and mission. Honorary advisors and legal consultants further guide SIXGA in its efforts to promote and enhance the game of Xiangqi in Singapore and beyond.
