The roots of Simon Coope Karate School go back to its founder, Matthew Coope, who started his karate journey to prevent bullying. Matthew's dedication and hard work led him to become a black belt at the age of 10. His father, David Coope, joined the school later on and also achieved his black belt. Both Matthew and David have achieved incredible success in karate, with national and international titles under their belts.
Simon Coope founded the karate school in April 2004 at Loughborough Leisure Centre and has since become a full-time professional instructor. The school takes immense pride in helping more than 200 individuals achieve their black belts and produce numerous English and British national champions. SCKS has also seen five members represent England in the national team, including two disabled athletes.
Although SCKS has a strong focus on competition, the primary goal of the club is to teach traditional Wado Ryu karate to a high standard. Wado Ryu is one of the four recognised styles of karate, and the school aims to maintain its authenticity. The club has connexions with instructors from around the world, providing opportunities for students to train in Japan or various countries.
