Simon Coope Karate School (SCKS) is a renowned karate school in Leicester, dedicated to providing high-quality training in the art of traditional Wado Ryu karate. Founded in April 2004 by Simon Coope, an experienced and passionate karate instructor, the school has since produced over 200 black belt achievers and numerous English and British National champions.
The inspiration behind the establishment of SCKS came from Simon's own personal experience. As a concerned parent, Simon enrolled his son Matthew in karate classes at the age of five to prevent him from being bullied in school. Matthew quickly excelled in the sport, earning his black belt by the age of 10. Simon himself joined the class when Matthew achieved his brown belt and soon became enthralled by karate.
At SCKS, the emphasis is not only on competitive success but also on teaching karate as a means of personal growth and self-defence. The school follows the principles of Wado Ryu, one of the four recognised styles of traditional karate. Students are trained to a very high standard, ensuring they develop discipline, focus, and physical fitness while upholding the core values of martial arts.
The school boasts an impressive track record, with several members representing the English Karate Federation (EKF) team in national and international competitions. In addition, SCKS has strong connexions within the global karate community, providing opportunities for students to train with world-renowned instructors in Japan and other countries.
SCKS welcomes individuals of all ages and abilities, offering classes tailored to different age groups. The school has a strong focus on family participation, with discounted rates for families who wish to train together. Additionally, SCKS offers special adult classes, recognising karate as an effective all-over body workout that enhances physical strength, flexibility, and coordination.
The school operates from various venues in Leicester, including Loughborough, Hinckley, Coalville, Broughton Astley, and Ashby Braunstone Leisure Centre. Classes are conducted by highly qualified and experienced instructors who are dedicated to providing a safe and supportive learning environment.
To join SCKS, individuals can take advantage of the “First Month Free” offer. Monthly fees for individuals include 26 for one lesson per week, 42 for two lessons per week, and 52. 50 for unlimited attendance, inclusive of all grading fees to black belt and future licences. Family discounts are available for two or more members, and subsequent family members only pay for grading and licences.
