Shotton Steel RFC, located in Shotton, North Wales, is a prominent rugby club with a rich history in the local rugby scene. Founded in the 1969/70 season as the rugby section of BSC Shotton, the club has been a part of the community for over 50 years.
Originally playing under the BSC banner, the club underwent a merger with local rivals Deeside RFC in the early 90s, resulting in the emergence of Afon Dee RFC. However, the change in name led to confusion regarding the club's location. To address this, the club made the decision to change its name once again, settling on Shotton Steel RFC. This name not only reflects the area the club represents but also pays homage to its heritage.
Since adopting its current name, Shotton Steel RFC has experienced significant growth and now boasts several teams, including Mini's, Juniors, Mens, and Ladies teams. The club actively participates in the local community and is known for its commitment to fostering rugby in the area.
In 2018, Shotton Steel RFC embarked on a new venture in collaboration with the Welsh Rugby Union (WRU), local authorities, and Deeside Community Trust. This partnership led to the development of a state-of-the-art Community Sports and Education Hub on the former site of John Summers High School. This purpose-built facility serves as the club's new home and is situated at the heart of the local community.
Shotton Steel RFC welcomes players of all ages and skill levels. The club offers a range of memberships, including Junior player, Senior player, Family membership, and Social and Non-Playing memberships. Membership fees are kept affordable, with prices currently starting at 30 for Junior players, 50 for Senior players, and 25 for Social and Non-Playing members.
