Welcome to Shotokan Karate Ryu, the premier martial arts school in Bishop's Stortford and Stansted. Since 2003, our mission has been to teach the art of Traditional Karate with the highest standards of excellence. With over fifteen years of experience, we have established ourselves as the largest Karate school in the area, boasting a team of over 30 Black belts and more than 200 licenced students.
Our school offers classes for all levels, from beginners to advanced practitioners. We believe in nurturing the potential of all our students, regardless of age or skill level. Our classes cater to Tiger Tots (4–6 years old), Juniors (5-16 years old), and Adults (16 years and above). Whether you're looking to develop coordination and motor skills, build confidence and self-discipline, or simply improve your fitness and self-defence abilities, we have a class for you.
At Shotokan Karate Ryu, we pride ourselves on our expert instructors. With a combined experience of 50 years in the Martial Arts, our Senseis are dedicated to providing the highest quality instruction. Sensei Michael Ring (7th Dan) serves as our Chief Instructor, recognised for his expertise and outstanding contributions to the art of Karate-do. Sensei Donna Ring (5th Dan), the Chief Instructor of Juniors, is responsible for developing the revolutionary Tiger Tots programme, which has been successful in teaching Karate to 4-6 year olds.
We are proud of our students' achievements and the impact our school has had on their lives. From passing black belt gradings to gaining confidence, our students' success stories speak for themselves. We strive to instil in our students the values of hard work, persistence, and resilience.
Conveniently located in Bishop's Stortford and Stansted Mountfitchet, our dojos are easily accessible to residents of both areas. We offer flexible class schedules throughout the week and on weekends, allowing you to mix and match classes that suit your itinerary.
