Established in the breathtaking Shoalhaven region of New South Wales, Shoalhaven Bushwalkers is a non-political and community-based sports club. Situated in Nowra – approximately 160 kilometres south of Sydney – the club is proudly affiliated with Bushwalking NSW.
The club boasts an exclusive “live” programme that is not available to the public. This programme includes weekend walks, with Wednesday being the main walking day for most members. In addition to the walks, members can also partake in various social events organised by the club.
To keep members updated and engaged, Shoalhaven Bushwalkers produces an informative e-newsletter. This newsletter encompasses a range of articles, walk reports, and captivating photographs. For those looking to get a glimpse of the club's activities, captivating images from the walks and social events are regularly posted on their active Facebook page. Furthermore, the club also maintains a Youtube channel where occasional updates featuring captivating movies from their walks are shared.
The club provides a diverse range of walks across different difficulty levels to cater to varying preferences and fitness levels. Sample Wednesday Walking Programmes are available, featuring walks such as the Grade 1 Andante 7 Mile Beach Walk in Gerroa, a serene 8 km stroll along the beach to the 7 Mile Beach National Park for morning tea before returning to Gerroa for lunch. For those seeking a bit more of a challenge, the Grade 4 Boongan Mountain to Hancocks Creek Road offers a 16 km circuit walk showcasing stunning views, creeks, waterfalls, and untouched vegetation.
As a bonus, Shoalhaven Bushwalkers members are eligible for a 10% discount on most items at Outdoors & Beyond in South Nowra, an outdoor gear store that stocks an extensive range of hiking and camping gear. Exceptions to the discount include kayaks, fridges, and Weber BBQ's.
The club provides comprehensive information and resources for both leaders and walkers alike. Walk leaders are provided with guidelines and suggestions for submitting their walks and are responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of the participants. Walkers are provided with safety procedures, emergency protocols, and helpful tips on how to be responsible walkers. In the unlikely event of accidents, injuries, or incidents, the club has guidelines in place to handle such situations efficiently, including the necessary first aid recommendations.
