Sho-Bu-Kan Aikido Club in Cardiff is thrilled to be celebrating its 40th Anniversary. This incredible milestone marks the beginning of a journey that started a few years before its official founding. It all began when a group of passionate individuals, including Clive Simms, Jim Rankmore, Bryn Holliday, and John Steel, decided to branch out and create their own Dojo after parting ways with the British Aikido Federation.
With the guidance and unwavering support of Kanetsuka Sensei, a practice session held 40 years ago saw the birth of the Sho-Bu-Kan Dojo. Since then, this fantastic Dojo has welcomed various instructors and hosted exciting weekend courses with renowned Aikido practitioners such as Chiba Sensei, Shibata Sensei, Bill Smith Sensei, Terry Ezra Sensei, Ken Cottier Sensei, and Okumura Shihan.
Throughout its rich history, the Dojo has found its home in multiple locations, including Cardiff, Penarth, Llanrumney Centre, Plasnewydd Centre, and currently resides in three different venues at Plasnewydd, Chapter, and Sully. The Dojo also enjoys a special bond as it is twinned with Harukaze Dojo in Tokyo.
One of the many great things about Sho-Bu-Kan Aikido Club is its diverse membership, which consists of both beginners who are just starting their martial arts journey and experienced students who have dedicated years to mastering Aikido. Within this supportive community, you'll find incredible individuals like Hazel and Guy, who are always ready to share their knowledge and provide support to all members, regardless of their skill level.
As Sho-Bu-Kan Aikido Club commemorates its 40th Anniversary, it eagerly looks forward to the future, aiming to continue developing Aikido in the true spirit of its founder, O'Sensei. With a strong focus on promoting harmony in both practice and daily lives, this Club remains dedicated to spreading the teachings of Aikido far and wide.
